Standard of Living

We like to think of our country as the greatest in the world. We like to think that everyone has equal opportunity.  Sadly they do not. Many people born into poverty have little chance of breaking out of the welfare cycle.  Thousands of “working poor” families do not have and cannot afford health insurance. Families in this area live in homes without adequate facilities. Children go to sleep in the 5th district hungry. These conditions should not exist. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed. Everyone should be guaranteed a basic level of health care. The Preamble of the Constitution calls on the nation to promote the general welfare.  While not creating a welfare state that allows its citizens to live off of the labor of others, leaders of this country should not rest until every person in this nation is afforded an opportunity to reach their potential. Ultimate responsibility falls upon the shoulders of the individual, but government must insure that our most precious resource-people, be allowed to prosper.
