Responsibility
As a country we expect to work hard and be able to provide for our families. We have come to expect the government to protect us both at home and abroad and educate our children and provide the connivances we are accustomed to. We do not however want to pay for them. It is time to evaluate our country as a whole. No one wants to pay more taxes. But in reality the things we expect from government are not cheap. We complain if the roads are not cleared or the municipal water system does not provide enough water pressure. We are upset that our local school does not offer a Latin class or the senior citizen bus only runs once a week. But no one calls the government and offers to pay some more tax. The result is we borrow money from our citizens and other countries in order to continue the charade that is our government. The reality is we need to do one of two things. Stop spending so much or raise taxes. This is not a revolutionary idea. What would make it revolutionary would be if we actually did it. I feel that in order to continue to live at the standard of living we enjoy we are looking at paying more money. As America’s infrastructure ages, I feel we are on the cusp of an overhaul of an unprecedented magnitude. We need to take responsibility and do what needs to be done in our country. My family was poor and they taught me not to buy things I could not afford. I would employ that sentiment in congress. Do not spend money you do not have.
