Education
Everyone agrees that education is important. As a teacher I know first hand the problems our public schools face. Schools may be the most important influence on the lives of many of our young people. We cannot fail them. Schools must not only prepare those that are bound for college or vocational school, they must also serve as a bridge out of poverty. I have served on the School Based Decision Committee for six years. Too often I have been told that my school was “overstaffed” and forced to make tough decisions. Simply throwing money at schools is not an answer, but providing a school with adequate staff and facilities should not be a luxury. It should be law. Quality compassionate teachers must be recruited and kept in place. This is a long term investment that is non negotiable if South Eastern Kentucky is to grow and prosper.
